Enterprise at Summerwood is an important part of the curriculum model. It provides students the opportunity to gain experience in vital DIY skills as we have several furniture upcycling projects in progress. Students have also made Christmas gifts and cards.
How we do it
We take unwanted furniture and give it a new lease of life. Take a look at some of our previous projects below and also the items we currently have for sale. There is a link below that shows the stages furniture has gone through to get to our finished product. The students not only gained ‘hands on’ experience but also can appreciate how easily a business can be developed, something that could easily be started from any home to generate an income.
Items we have made
Previously, our students had worked on small coffee tables, a bureau and children’s chair. For Christmas, we made cards and seasonal products such as elf shoes. We have recently started to upcycle old picture frames and have just completed out first project that involves re-upholstery. A lovely storage box/seat that would be a great addition to any cluttered children’s bedroom. The student’s are currently working on re-upholstery of a set of chairs that will be ideal for a kitchen breakfast area. Watch this space for images of these once they are completed!
Items for sale
All of the furniture or other items made by the students are available to buy should you wish to do so. To see our items for sale please click on the link below. We are happy to arrange delivery of any items purchased provided this is local.
Do you have items to donate?
We are always on the hunt for items that we can use for future projects. If you are happy to donate something please contact Steve Callear at Summerwood to see if it is something that might be suitable. We are also happy to collect items locally.
