Vita Classes

About Us

Welcome to Blackbirds Class! We have 10 pupils that are in Year 5 and 6 and are supported by teacher, Katie Hinchliffe and 3 teaching assistants, Csilla, Farida and Kelly.

Every morning we all enjoy a selection of activities that promote and develop our social and fine/gross motor skills. We all enjoy sensory circuits on a Friday because it helps develop our core stability as well as gross motor skills plus we have fun with our friends.

On a Tuesday morning we stretch our bodies and minds with Mr Tiller as he teaches us some yoga poses. On a Wednesday morning we enjoy our active PE session, then afterwards we have great fun learning and creating music with Miss Swarbrick.

We love to go out and about in our local community so that we can learn about where we live as well as road safety. As a class we earn pasta points which means a special treat. If we earn 50 pieces of pasta we get to choose our treat, sometimes we visit places like Moors Valley and Hengistbury Head which is great fun!

We are working on the Vita curriculum which includes 9 domains that are: Independence, Communication, Thinking, Problem Solving and Engagement, Personal and Social Development, Understanding of the World, Maths, Literacy, Physical and Mental Wellbeing and Expressive Arts and Design.

We enjoy a range of different activities throughout the week linked to the different domains. Some of these include: cooking (where we get to choose what we want to cook), Music, PE, ICT, Relaxation, Design and Technology, Art and many more. We love going out and about and try to do this every week, although at the moment we just go for a walk to the local park. We enjoy listening to music and dancing during our choosing times and some of us love to make music on the laptops.

About Us

Welcome to Owls Class. We are situated at Linwood’s main campus and we are the proud tenants of a wonderful and spacious classroom with an ‘Exploration Station’ attached and a large outside area which is perfect for all our educational and exploratory needs.

There are 9 children in this current cohort and they range from years 3 to 4. They follow the Vita Curriculum which is a natural follow on from the Early Years Curriculum that runs alongside and compliments the early stages of the National Curriculum. The Vita curriculum allows us to be as creative and flexible in our teaching as we can be and we are able to take each child on their very own individual learning journey led by the child and supported by the adult.

We always have four members of staff in the classroom at any one time and we all believe that building positive relationships with each child is fundamental in them being able to fulfil their very best potential in our exciting and vibrant learning environment.

We take a great deal of pride in all of our achievements no matter how big or small they are (this includes the adults too!). We believe that every child is unique and individual and we celebrate this. It is important that each child feels valued, happy, appreciated and settled at school. We pride ourselves on making the environment a home from home so that the children thrive knowing that they are able to take risks, explore new ideas and concepts and know that making mistakes in life is a positive experience that can be learnt from.

We are an enthusiastic group of explorers who enjoy learning about the world around us and we do try to make the topics and themes that we cover relevant to the child and their own experiences. We follow a basket approach of learning which allows us to dip in and out of different teaching and learning styles which are bespoke and suited to the children that we teach. This generally means that every day is very different in Owls Class and we always try to make the most of what is going on in the here and now.

This is merely a snap shot of what we get up to in Owls and how we learn. Together, we are a team. This quote sums up our class so well and the values that we believe in. We are in this together.

‘Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through a reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.’ Loris Malaguzzi.

About Us

Welcome to Swifts class! We are a Year 3, 4 and 5 class with 9 pupils. We have 1 teacher and 4 teaching assistants. The adults in the class are Lizzie, Lisa, Gabrijela, Kathleen and Helen.

We follow the semi-formal Vita curriculum and learn at a pace that is right for us. We work 1:1 or in small groups. A lot of our learning is through play.

Fiddly Fingers sessions develop our fine motor skills and we do activities such as threading and cutting out. We do Storycise to develop our gross motor movements and develop our core strength. Our weekly Write Dance sessions develop our skills for writing.

We believe that learning should be fun! We follow the children’s interests and work with them to develop a personalised teaching and learning approach that works best for each individual. We nurture their interests and work hard to support pupils to fulfil their potential and achieve the best possible outcomes.

As a school we follow a Total Communication approach, which includes the use of signing and symbols. We learn lots of new signs based on vocabulary from our current topic. We also know signs for everyday things such as greetings, weather, days of the week, colours, and activities.

In Swifts we like to have lots of fun! Every day is different!
