Some of our children, who particularly benefit from an even more personalised approach, learn through our Alma Curriculum. This is based on the MSI Curriculum – developed at the MSI Unit at Victoria School, Birmingham and published by SENSE.
The pupils at Linwood who follow this curriculum present with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) / complex learning difficulties and disabilities (CLDD).
The Alma Curriculum is best described as a curriculum for pupils who are not ready for subject specific learning, but who benefit from a curriculum which encourages them to learn new concepts and skills and to establish these in a range of different contexts.
Progress is tracked and evidenced under the following eight learning domains:
- Social relationships and emotional development
- Communication
- Conceptual development
- Sensory responses
- Understanding of time and place
- Orientation, movement and mobility
- Ownership of learning
- Responses to routines and changes
